The Musée Maison de la Culture of Le Havre (MuMa) has been built between 1952 and 1961. It became in the 1960's a unique symbol of cultural hybridisation, which lead later to the conception of museums of contemporary art as we know them nowadays – opened to a bigger audience, to all mediums of art. Located in a city that has been totally devastated by the Second World War and facing the Atlantic, the MuMa's main aspiration was to seek a democratisation of culture, in order to move the youth into a better future.
